The Laboratory Of Networking Group (LONGLAB) was established by Prof. Liang Cheng. The mission of LONGLAB is to explore state-of-the-art techniques for heterogeneous data networks. Our research focuses on both theoretical and experimental studies related to wired and wireless networks.
LONGLAB is actively involved in various research projects funded by
NSF (National Science Foundation), DARPA (Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency), the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (through
Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance), and Agere Systems,
Inc. Recent research in the group has focused on wireless sensor
networks, mobile ad hoc networks, middleware computing/architecture,
network management, network processing, and optical communications.
LONGLAB has collaborations with local technology industry.
LONGLAB has a heterogeneous networking testbed, including a wireless sensor network with dozens of Crossbow MICA MOTE sensors nodes, mobile ad hoc network testbed by laptops and handheld devices, an IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, a private network using Cisco 12000, 3620/2620 routers and Catalyst 2900 Series switches with firewall connections to the Internet.
Moreover, the LONGLAB is equipped with high performance computers, including Dell PowerEdge 2900 and 1800 servers, 12 desktops with both Linux and Windows platforms, and 1 Sun workstation with Solaris platform. The computers are equipped with ns-2 network simulator as well as C/C++, Java, and Matlab for network research and development.
